We’ve discussed mobile Internet activity quite a bit over the past few months, but today we’re taking a look at tablets. Since the release of the iPad 18 months ago, a slew of competition from the likes of Sony, HP, Samsung and most recently Amazon have come on the scene, with the latest figures revealing that 11% of U.S. adults own a tablet. At TMP we have seen 234% growth in traffic to TalentBrew sites from tablets in the first half of 2011. This tablet fever is spreading globally, with eMarketer estimating the number of tablets sold worldwide will jump from 17.6 million in 2010 to 326.3 million in 2015.

More important than the sheer volume of tablets in use is the engagement level they command. The 77% of tablet owners who use the device daily average a staggering 90 minutes per day. Browsing the web and checking email rank as the two most popular activities, and one in four access social networks through their tablet.

So what does this have to do with recruitment? Well, in addition to investing resources into the message you are sending to and content you are sharing with candidates, employers must focus on how and where these users want to receive that information. Have you checked out your careers site on a tablet recently? How does it render? Can users navigate and apply for jobs effectively? Now more than ever it’s imperative that employers are developing tablet-friendly versions of their website. Ask your friendly Account Team today how TMP can help you!
